Unfortunately, worship styles have become a point of division within the Church and not a point of worship unification.
The Traditional congregates tend to look down on the folks that prefer the Contemporary worship style. Their arguments span from, “It’s a show, it’s just a rock concert”, to a plethora of infractions that are projected to simply be irreverent.
The Contemporary congregates tend to look at the Traditional style as out of touch, it doesn’t stir their spiritual emotions. Their arguments span from, “It’s just checking a box and doesn’t lead me to worship”, to a plethora of critical observations from depressing to dead congregates that just show up out of habit. . . which too can be viewed as irreverent.
A word of caution on the Blended Approach. It is not that it will never work, but the sad truth is that inasmuch as Blended is NOT Traditional and NOT Contemporary, it rarely works. This approach might keep attendance constant but will almost never Grow a Congregation. Again, understand that the Blended approach doesn’t serve either style, it is a compromise for ALL congregates. It is always best to have two separate services.
However, please understand that two services will yield another problem, congregates from one Service don’t know the congregates for the other Service. That said two services DO provide ALL Congregates the opportunity to worship, without compromise. Therefore, it is paramount to understand that the issue of uniting the congregates from the two services is a logistics problem, not an “Eternity” problem.
As part of our “On-Sight” work, we will be able to share much more information regarding your opportunities and give you the information, to better understand the REAL differences in Worship Styles, understand the minimum requirements and the challenges of each.
